Archer Comes to Grips with Long Beach Circuit
Long Beach, Calif. -- Tommy Archer, driving the number 36 Cinjo
Racing/Motorcity True Performance/Viper, came to grips with the Long Beach
street circuit in preparation for Sunday's Trans-Am race. In the first of
only two practice sessions, the second being for qualifying, Archer
reacquainted himself with the Southern California street circuit. "The new
corners that have been designed into the track since I was here in '93 make
for a more exciting layout." The excitement of the track caught the
Minnesota driver by surprise exiting turn five resulting in a spin. "I went
into the corner too fast and the front end washed out and it went around."
Posting a time of 1:25.437 and 83 mph, good for seventh on the time sheet,
Archer is optimistic for the weekend. "We are setting the car up so I can
drive it aggressively into the corners. There is some more time to get out
of the car, we are focusing on a good qualifying time."
The Long Beach Trans-Am race will start at 3:45 p.m. PST and be televised on
Speedvision, April 15th, at 12:00 p.m. EST.
