I was on a 7 hour drive this weekend back from Ohio to Chicago I did not have my stereo cranked (girlfriend is not a huge slayer fan). So we just cruised with the windows down. I had it in 6th most of the way crusing at about 75. When I let my foot of the gas I hear a "chunck" sound. I push the gas back down and "CHUNK!" again. Is the sound always there or just when the stereo is off.

I know 75 in 6th is super low RPM but should there be THAT much play in the drive line? I had it up on the rack that same weekend to do headers and my friend that was doing the headers said there was a little play but not ALOT.

Any ideas? Since my waterpump crapped out on me, I am waiting for the next thing to fall off.

6th at 75 mph for 7 hours your battery must have been toast. I need to go above 80-85 to get a positive charge when in 6th. Of course I use 6th about twice a year just to make sure it still works.

A clunk sound in 6th would be unusual. I have heard driveline clunk but usually in 1st or 2nd when the applied torque to the wheels is high. A clunk in 6th at low rpm must be just driveline lash.

Thanks. I looked through that same thread and noticed that most complaints were when the suspension is in a flex position. Mine is simply when I am crusing around 75 in 6th and I let of the gas it "CHUNK" then I press the gas slightly and "CHUNK". I anticipate some drive lag on such a non precision beefy vehicle. I am just making sure it was normal. My 5 speed f350 did the exact same thing in 5th at a low MPH relative to the gear I was in. I usually disregard noises until something REALLY breaks, then ill take it in. Last time my trusty (no problems for 2 years) viper left me stranded.

Thanks MAN!!

Didnt notice the battery

I would cruise to 80 but over 80MPH my car shakes like I am Chuck Yeager breaking the sound barrier for the first time.

I have a couple of bent wheels and am torn between replacing with stock or get some sweet HREs. But thats for a different thread :)
