Looking for some advice on this one :)

While driving yesterday, the clutch pedal was not returning to its correct position, I could still change gears OK even crawling through Central London, then when I got out on the open Highway same thing, the pedal now has about an inch and half free play before engaging the clutch? I pulled over and checked the fluid yesterday while everything was still hot and the reservoir is full, but the fluid dose look fairly black and dirty. The clutch dose not seem to be slipping so am a bit stumped as to what is going on? any advice please? Thing is Ive got some serious weekend driving events booked up with the car through out Aug and September so I want to make sure everything is OK.

Got to be either the master or slave getting ready to go. Given the lack of pedal snapping back, my bet would be the master. Call Chuck Tator to be sure. 914-763-3136

I would try changing the clutch fluid first [DOT 4]. Also check the routing of the clutch hydraulic line, be sure it is routed as FAR away from your exhaust as possible and make sure the insulation on the line is in good shape and or add another layer to it. See if that helps? Let us know what happens.

Cheers

Dam it :(

Looks like Ive more problems :(

First of all, got under the car this evening, it was a bit dirty under there as I had not had a proper chance to clean anything since coming back from Le mans in June.
So started cleaning the chassis and general pipe work. Then as I got closer to the oil filter area noticed a whole lot of green gunge which has been leaking from somewhere above the alternator and has made its way down the Left hand side of the engine (alternator side) and then worked its way along the sump pan and onto the chassis and clutch inspection cover :(
On closer inspection it looks like it might be coming from around the Thermostat area? Trouble is you have to remove a whole bunch of stuff to get to that bit, inlet manifold etc :(

Really fed up at the moment I just did not need this, And I had a whole bunch of things lined up in the coming weekends :(

I can do some jobs myself but this one looks like a big one and I don't have hardly any funds at the moment to sort things out :(

On the + side, I took off the clutch inspection cover and everything looks great in there, not much dust and bone dry. Will try a full system bleed and see if that helps the pedal return? What was strange was that when I first went to press down the pedal after the car had been standing for a day or so it was back to normal then after 2 or 3 pushes it reverted back to being sloppy?

Dr Bob changed my thermostat for a different temp version in the GTS Mark, getting the intake off is quite a simple and quick job to do

though he's about to disappear for a few weeks hol and has the garage extension going up when he returns, so he will no doubt be out of action for a while
