Does California need to see a Massachusetts driving record if I move there?

I am thinking about moving to California for a change of lifestyle. My Driving record is not too good here in Mass. Will my Mass record affect my California record if I just apply for a license like normal?

Thanks

I don't think your record will transfer to any other state once you get your new license.

I made the move to CA from NY and never looked back. You'll love it out here but will get spoiled real quick. Enjoy the weather and relaxing lifestyle!

You can check or call the CA DMV here >>> www.dmv.ca.gov/dmv.htm
and click on "New to California"

I didn't see it mentioned on the website, but better to call them and make sure. I've lived in SoCal all my life, I guess I'm spoiled.

I believe all the state's computers are linked. If you hold a valid license in any other state California shouldn't deny you one here but your previous record could count against you if you have further violations here.

Certain states have resiprosity with records. Check to see it your state is one onf these. If not, clear sailing. If so, then your record is already on Ca records. In addition to the points thing, the insurance rates may take a big hit if your record transfers.

Your MA driving record and your CA driving record are 2 different entities. Unless you have something criminal, you should not have a problem getting a CA license. In either case, it will NOT affect your CA driving record since what happened in MA stays in MA. What it will affect is your auto insurance because most insurers look back 5 years. Get a C.L.U.E report from http://www.choicepoint.com if you haven't done so already. Best of luck.

Franko- I'll have to give you call next summer, I should be out in San Diego scoping it out as a place to move in a little over two years. I should be out there for a month or so, and will have my car with me.
