Yes the green anti-freeze @ 50/50.
You can use the "Long Life" [red] anti-freeze but you would have to clean out the entire cooling system [radiator, block, heater core & hoses]. They don't like each other! I don't recommend "Water Wetter" ether [waste of money].

You wouldn't recommend Water Wetter? Really? I haven't heard anything but good about it... can you explain why you think it is a waste?

I know it's supposed to help cooling as well as aid in corrosion prevention. Coming from anyone else, I would have probably not paid too much attention. But, coming from the Wizard, I'm all ears and ready to learn something new :)

Viper Wizard is correct. Use the green glycol coolant and mix 50/50 with distilled water. Water wetter is fine but never use it without coolant ( if you run water wetter and distilled water only you could destroy your engine ). If you want your engine to run cooler a 70/30 mix of distilled water and coolant will work better but you will need to service your cooling system every year (flush and drain).

Dan is right about servicing your engine yearly if using 70/30 water to coolant (I always thought it was ironic that using more water than coolant was better at cooling the engine). I used 100% water in my SCCA car, and learned the hard way...

I've seen that 50/50 stuff too. Is it about half the price of the regular anti-freeze? After all, it IS half water! If it's about the same price, what a scam.

"In my opinion" Water Wetter at best may give you a 10 deg. drop. For the money is it worth it? It is very hot [corrosive], to much and it's going to eat internal parts! Just like "Necrotizing Fasciitis"!

For the track, it may help a little and your always changing the coolant anyway. We run Water Wetter in the T1 Viper that I kept running. How much does it help - the jury is still out on that one.

When "burping" or "purging" the coolant system, is the car supposed to be running or shut off?

Shut off.

I found it easier to fill the radiator at the heater hose and with a long tube. I got most of the air out that way, but I still burped my system just in case. Didn't do too much since I got most of the air out. I put water wetter in my stuff and wonder if it really works.

Viper wizard, did you say that watter wetter is corrosive??

I know you already bought Prestone but I read an article by an engineer at Zerex in Car and Driver recently. He said the best was Zerex G-05 and it is compatible with the Green AND Red stuff. Supposedly it's in all new Daimlers and Fords and others. At Autozone, they had Zerex 5 year long life in a white bottle which I thought was correct but no. G-05 is in a gold bottle and specifically says G-05. The color of it is yellow which is strange.

Anyways, I used it and am very happy. Tip, if you burp using the upper radiator hose and do not have the bleeder valve jack the front passenger side up, it really helps to get that radiator (surge) tank as the highest point in the system. Get four hands on the hose and squeeze many many times but always keep the surge tank 1/2 full.
