Just trying to get an opinion on what this sound can possibly be.

When my 2001 GTS is cold the drive line is perfectly quiet. After 10-15 minutes of driving as the car warms up I get a high pitched whining/wurring sound from the drive train when I am in 5th or 6th.

In sixth gear the sound comes on around 1300 RPM and goes away at 1500 RPM, In 5th gear the RPM band when I hear the noise is a little higher.

When the drive train is not loaded/accelerating I do not hear the noise. When I am accelerating more heavily I don't hear it, but when I am slightly loading the drive line when I am on the highway or cruising the noise is fairly noticable.

I can't tell if it is the trans or rear or what. Any ideas?

Also, The car has after market 3.55 gears on it. Not sure what brand since it came with the car when I bought it.

Thanks for any insight.

When I had a similar noise, the bearings were going out in the differential.
