Dyno results - I\'m rich *****!!!

409 RWHP/446 Torque, which is better than what I was predicting. I was guessing 400HP/425TQ. The two results in the 300's are when the car was in 3rd gear. I paid for two pulls in a dyno day, and the guy offered to do in 3rd and 4th, so obviously I let him. Only mods are Corsa catback, smooth tubes, K&Ns, no cats, and an aluminum flywheel. This was just a "before and after" deal to see what I pick up when I start modding it.

Notice how rich I am though. I need a VEC2....

I would bet you would pick up 20 HP and TQ by bringing your A/F up to the 12-13 range. You're right, Vec 2! :2tu:

I bet you were using a tail pipe sniffer, if so that air/fuel number is pointless might as well use your nose to diagnose your air/fuel mixture.

Your numbers are a bit low for having no cats, even on a creampuff I would expect about 415-420 with your mods.

But the reason is that your car was hot lapped 4 times, which will result in low hp. All 4 pulls were made within 3 minutes of each other, had your initial pulls been made in 4th the numbers would be a bit higher.

Russ, the tail pipe sniffer is not as bad as you think. My friend had his zr1 with a wideband installed, and the tail pipe sniffer was very close to the wideband reading.

I tested a brand new dyno jet unit up against a Horriba and a Motec unit, the tail pipe was a full point off when it was brand new.

It was all over the place, some times richer sometimes leaner.

All we could think of is that the sniffer just had too slow of a reaction to what was going on. It seemed as if you did the pull long enough the numbers would get a bit closer. But by that time you were finished with the run.

Well, let's say it is off by a point, hell TWO points.

I am still rich then.....

Russ, I think the sniffer you were using was broken. Obviously the tailpipe will lag a few hundred RPM's versus a **** in the collector but other than that they are pretty good. You just have to realize it is farther away from the exhaust valves and adjust your tuning accordingly.

Anaconda,
I just tuned a car the other day with very similar numbers and mods and after the vec2 I ended up with 471 and 505...I thought that was a nice gain for a simple bolt on. There is a lot to be had with the vec 2 and a mild tune.
See ya,
Joe

Yeah, I will be getting one soon, especially after seeing that dyno chart.

The odds are that the A/F set-up was faulty. You would know if your car was running that rich. The tail-pipe sniffers are accurate if they are the pump style.

You are 100% correct. We've done many tests to see what effect putting the wideband in the tailpipe vs putting it in the down-pipe (on a Supra) will have. Here is a pic, as you can see, there is about 400-500 rpm of lag in the reading but putting the wide band in the tail pipe is 100% accurate as far as a/f goes, just lags by 4-500 rpm.
