Ok all you engine gurus,

Just put a new set of forged Ross pistons in my Gen 2. It only had 4000 mile, but with my super charger and a defective Hyperetectic (sp) piston it was best to go with forged. replaced the rod bearings, new rings everything else left alone.

For the initial break in (ring setting) what oil should I run. I hear that synthetic oil is not good for initial startup, and regular oil should be run, then at 500 miles switch over to
Mobil 1.

The stock piston lost a big chunk ove the first compression ring. Thank you EPA for forcing cat pistons on all 2000 and later cars.

Any thought and words of wisdom would be appreciated!!!

Thanks in advance,
Mark 24 hours from startup

Mark,
I always run a good quality 10/30 conventional oil for break in.
I would NEVER use Mobil 1 synthetic until the rings are fully seated. I would run it at the very least 500 miles but, more then likely 1000 would be better. What kind of rings did you use?

Glad to hear your car is almost back together...looks like you'll make the Crab Feast.......Lee

Speaking of Auto World Weekly, is it now defunct? I got a letter a month or two ago, stating something to the effect of they were no longer going to be able to publish bi-weekly, it was going to monthly ...nothing since...

anyone seen a new issue lately?

Soooooo, are we saying here that Dodge and SEVERAL OTHER manufacturers are "less than wise" using Mobil 1 (Trisynthetic)oil as factory fills????? Somehow, that seems unlikely to me. Will be interested in comments.
