Doing my spring oil change today. When I pulled the drain plug I found a screw stuck to it. Looks like one of the windage tray screws or perhaps one of the screws used to attached the screen to the bottom of the pan/pickup. Will be pulling the pan shortly to see what's going on in there but are loose oil pan screws common on GenII's? Is thread locker on to use on these?

Thanks,

LOL...my wife just told me she always knew I had a screw loose. :rolaugh: But she was also quick to say that in NO WAY would I use this finding to justify an NA engine build. She knew EXACTLY where that screw came from. ;) Anyway, turns out 4 of these screws were loose (front/back) of windage tray:

Decided to unscrew them all and clean out the gunk at the bottom of the pan while I was in there. Found some model numbers and more graphiti:

This was an unexpected task as part of my "Spring Fling" below...luckily I did get one thing done on the list so far today:D:

Thanks for the laughs and tips! But one more related question/topic. I picked up a used oil pan some time ago. I can't determine which Viper model it fits and its noticeably different than my stock oil pan. Can anyone identify this?

Wow, at least that didn't get thrown around in the engine. Good thing the oil pickup has a screen on it. I'd freak out if I saw that stuck to my oil drain plug...

Brace yourself for transmission work. The T56 drain does not have a magnet, but there are two, large, circular magnets in the bottom nestled in nice cast seats. When you see them they will look like dead, decayed mice because of all the hairy goo on them.

I had loose screws in my pan as well. None had fallen out but were backing out at 15K miles.

I found this DIY helpful (http://forums.viperclub.org/illustrated-upgrades/604150-oil-pan-baffle-install.html) with regards to removing and installing the oil pan in my case. The gasket didn't budge from the block and the areas that had sealant applied (as denoted in that writeup) still had the sealant attached it was pliable. It was really easy to remove/install the pan. Be extra careful torquing the pan bolts...they strip easily. 95 inch pounds (not foot pounds :omg: ) on my '01.
