The Yellow Beast is back together this morning. APEX finished installing the Hennessey Venom Power Pak (heads/rockers/etc.) yesterday, got the valvetrain set up, and measured compression -- stock compression was 160-165, and with the new heads it's now 195 (!). I expect the motor will fire within another hour, and barring some unexpected event I'll be picking it up this afternoon to *ahem* put some ECU adaption miles on it, and then putting it on the dyno tomorrow at 8:30AM at APEX to see what changes we have wrought. Anyone in the local area (San Jose, CA) is welcome to pop over tomorrow morning and see the fun.

Dyno runs: 8:30AM Saturday 6/16 at Apex Motorsports
Current Modifications:
K&Ns & smooth tubes
CDI/Archer Racing headers
3" high-flow cats
BTR / Belanger 3" exhaust
Power Effects Mufflers
Hennessey Venom 550 Heads
T&D 1.7 roller rockers
Hennessey AL flywheel
BTR half-shafts
BTR NOS/Propane system
Fluidyne radiator
180-degree thermostat
Magnecor 10.5mm wires

Previous best results: 438 RWHP / 485 ft/lbs off NOS, 553 / 675 on NOS.

My fearless prediction for tomorrow: 500 RWHP / 490 ft/lbs off NOS

All,
Unfortunately, the cooling system problem I had previously experienced and posted about was not solved with the new thermostat. By a process of elimination, I now suspect the water pump. I'm dropping the car off Monday morning at my local Dodge for them to diagnose and fix the problem. As soon as the car is running at normal temperatures again, we'll set up the dyno runs.

Subjectively, with the new Hennessey heads the Viper feels a LOT faster above 3,500 RPM. Where before torque would start to fall off right above 3,500, now the car feels like it's coming on cam and pulls with urgency up to redline. I'm looking forward to getting some objective figures to back up this subjective impression.

Any other votes on the Dyno Pool? Winner gets... err... an autographed copy of the dyno sheet?

Ben, please post results. Are you going to the Zone Rendezvous next Sat. at the Monterey Municipal Airport, I'd love to see your snake. Did you install the rollbar yet?
