front door woofer/tweeter question

If I buy tweeters and woofers to replace those in the doors do I need to buy crossovers or is the car already setup and I just need the tweeters and woofers? I assume I don't need the crossovers because the car came stock with separate tweeters and woofers for the front?

also, is 6.5" the stock size or is 5.25? if 6.5 isn't stock, then what mods are required?

If you buy a set of component speakers, they should come with crossovers matched to the speakers.
5.25 is stock. You'd have to cut the opening larger to fit the 6.25, or (depending on the shape and dimensions of the speaker), be able to put a spacer ring under the speaker (there is some room between the speaker and door panel to allow this)

I think your asking if you'll need them (x-overs) when you use the new speakers, right?
The stock tweeter has a capacitor, I think, and the door woofer runs full range. ANY x-over will be better than this, even if you make one your self using a quality capacitor on the tweet and a coil on the woofer. Any electronics supplier can help, even the place that sold you the speakers.

Asp Man: that's exactly what I was asking. I thought maybe there was a crossover in the door already, but sounds like they did a cheapo job. I haven't bought anything yet, but I'm planning to get a component set (including crossovers) for the doors and 2-way or 3-way speakers for the rear center.

If you haven't done so already, I'd advise swapping out the head unit before playing with the speakers - the stock speakers and amps sound ten times better with an aftermarket/better head unit. So much so, that you may decide its not worth playing with the speakers. At least, that was my experience.
