Near my place I have a choice on 2 other fuels then the standard9 3 oct. 100 oct unleaded and 104 leaded. What are the pros and cons of either. I have not used the the 104 unleaded, just seems wrong, but have heard that its fine and from others never to use it.

Generally, when it comes to fuel, If you dont need it, dont use it. At best its money down the drain, but you can also LOSE power from running a fuel with an octane much higher than needed.

Stay away from ANY leaded fuels.

As I understand it, one of the few differences between the '05 and earlier SRT's is that the 'O5 engines have a knock sensor (or different type of knock sensor). I thought the purpose of a knock sensor is to adjust the timing to allow the use of higher octane fuel and produce more HP? Can someone in the know provide a not-too-technical explaination?

Lower octane fuel tends to burn quicker and hotter and and can cause detonation hence the need for knock sensors( bad batch of gas) with high octane fuel as mentioned earlier you will lose performance unless the engine was specifically designed or manufactered/altered to burn it...I know others on this site will be more technical but you asked not for that

The knock sensors were added due to the tow rated SRT-10 Ram QC. The Knock Sensors will not advance your timing passed the base map, they will only retard it if detonation is detected. In a Viper, you should never see detonation in a stock engine with the correct gas. it is POSSIBLE however to see it in a Ram while towing and going up hill, because you could be at full load for quite some time while not accellerating.
