I have a garage project going on. I don't want to sink a lot of money into it but I do want to paint the floors. I have been looking at the Rustoleum product at home depot. It seems easy enough to apply. Price is right.

I am getting mixed opinions from some of you out there after searching through the forums. I hear some of you brag about it and some of you think its crap.

I am not looking for $$Racedeck$$ or anything like that. I have about 500 sq ft to work with.

What works? I really need your help on this one.

Rustoleum does work. Here are the problems:

The floor needs to be clean. Use acid to etch the floor. Old stains and oil in the concrete will cause problems.

The activator is not 50/50. So for touch up work, you mix a entire gallon at a time.

If you use the paint chips, touch up work is more difficult. If you decide to use the paint chips, use a handheld seed spreader for an even coat.

I like Valspar paint. It too is not expensive (like U-Coat-It).

Once a year I re-paint my garage. No need to remove the old paint.

1) The box says "Kit includes concentrated surface cleaner - no muriatic acid etching needed". Are you saying that I need to use the muriatic acid anyway or is the floor cleaner that comes in the box good enough?

2) Is the little bag of paint chips enought to cover the floor appropriately?

3) Is the tile floor too slippery?

I used the product from Home Depot and just returned two kits this past weekend. I have a three bay garage and only painted one bay before winter set in (I was in the process of putting 40 gallons of paint on inside). This bay is for the wifes mini van so it gets very little traffic and is peeling up. As she pulls in the wet rear tires lock up on the very slick floor, resulting in the floor coming up. I cleaned it as directed before painting. We chose this product because it said we didn't have to use acid on the floor. We decided to tile the floor similar to what Yellow Fever has done. In considering how the floor will look tiled, it being not as slick wet and durability, the desision was easy. BTW we did consider the texture granulas that you can buy to keep the painted floor from being slick, but felt it would make sweeping and squeeging the floor difficult.

Photopro,

Check out these two links. The first one is for a 2 part epoxy paint from Griots and the second is the prep and application instructions. I've used the stuff from Home Depot before and it lifted from hot tires. My next garage floor paint will be with this floor paint from Griots. The key is in proper prep and etching of the cement.

Yellow Fever,
Where would I find such a tile???
Thanks

Larry , I found my tile at a local tile and carpet store..I'm sure they all carry it. Total cost was $800.00 ( installation included )

Fortunetly in San Deigo we get VERY little rain so it hasn't been an issue..But yes its slippery when wet :)

Looks great. We have a local salvage supply. I might get a really great price there on tile.

I checked the U coat it and Griots. They both look like they might work also.

I am just looking for something with no maintenance.
