I have a 94 I've owned for 8 years now and just had to have the head gaskets replaced. From reading recently it sounds like I need to do some sort of mod to the side sill or they will(if not already) corrode out. Can anyone fill me in on what needs to be done? Thanks in advance.

Did the coolant seep into your side sills and start to corrode them ? :)

The side sills are actually made from aluminum, so I don't see how they could corrode.

The coolant did not cause any problem with the sills but I do remember somewhere hearing something about dis-similar metals touching and haveing a problem. Just don't know the whole story or what the fix is. I was under the impression that all gen 1 vipers have this problem and it must be delt with.

Do a lot of searching on this board for corrosion and sills. Your answers are here. Problems unique to gen1's are rivits, open insulation and screws. Rivits were later eliminated, insulation changed, screws changed.

It's not a bimetal issue, the sills do corrode, it's a moisture issue.

Just did gaskets on my '94 as well. Do a seach on side sills and you will see my post from last week. I just spent a couple weeks learning about the whole corrosion thing and finding out who to send them to. PM me when you have a moment and I will walk you through everything. I've already done all the research for you.......just let me know. I will get you in touch with the right guy to fix.

There are 3 metals at play: Rivet; insulation; Sill

Add road film and water or coolant, and add HEAT and you create a miniature electrolysis similiar to a battery! It consumes the sill and can make it paper-thin. In fact, I have seen sill spots as thin as the PAINT alone !

Call me for more.....tips on Zinc-based primers, and more.
