Gen I and Gen II Viper question.

I want build a Viper as a street racer,I will be buying a previously owned Viper as a starting point,I was told that the 96-up Vipers are considered GEN II,what are the differences between the two generations,I believe 96 was also the first year for the 450 hp RT/10,any other info will be appreciated.
