Gen1 mirror glass removal?

How do I get side mirror glasses removed before painting the car?

I'm not sure if they are the same or not, but on my Gen 2 you can move the glass around with your hand and pull out on the bottom of the corner and it will be hinged at the top. The bottom will be swinging and all you have to do is raise up on it and it will pull off.

I didn't do this myself so just be careful with it, because it seems like you are going to break it but you are just breaking it loose from the housing. Should take about 10 seconds.

I was messing with them on a 97 and I couldnt get them to break free. I didn't want to crack the mirror.
