I know a few a running gen 2 exhaust on their gen 1 cars. Anyone have dyno numbers comparing the two? Just trying to figure out if the change is worth it. I know there is a weight savings, but I am looking for actual HP/TQ numbers.

thanks

Thanks Jay, seen this thread a while back. I am hoping someone has some numbers to prove this is worth the time. The weight savings is there, but I cannot justify making the change if I am only going to pick up a few HP.

If you can pickup a set for less than $100 and get them ceramic coated for heat and flow for less than $300 total, that would be worth it. Considering that a good set of headers will run you $1700

I'd like to see some before and after numbers too, especially after my recent VEC1 experience, thing ended up costing me $400 (Canadian, but its still $400 to me!) by time it got through customs (got nailed on duty, pst, gst, brokerage due to a paperwork error, **** happens), then the adventure of finding instructions to install it in a 94 (came with 96+ instructions, list member helped me out), then the fun of installing it, then another $100 for an hour of dyno time to dial it in, and after that? 8hp, 7tq.

I'd don't blame you for trying to find some solid, concrete, number before jumping into a complete exhaust change.

Mind you, I know my stock setup is 2.5", and with the headers and 3" pipe its gotta make a noticable difference! It's definately going to be my next upgrade, but those headers seem to be pretty scarce!

Just make a post looking for a set of 98-2002 exhaust manifold on the GTS/RT discussions. You will probably get them for less than $100 shipped. Also call Chuck Tator, he may also have a set. :2tu:

Well just for reference (and I have no idea where the figures came from), our own IVR states for 1998 (the first year to use factory tubular headers) that:

# Tubular stainless headers (24 lbs. lighter, unclaimed + 4hp)

I'd have a hard time believing they could only muster up an additional 4hp with these, but maybe so??

4hp not worth the effort, 15-20hp maybe.
