This question has been asked before, most will say it won't.
I think there was someone that - word is - had found a
'solution' for mating the GenII door to a GENI, but either
that person has passed on, or he doesn't post anymore.

I think the problem is where the windsheild frame and side
windows meet?

Gen II doors are hanging on my Gen I right now, but installation is not complete...... It takes quite a few parts to make it work correctly. If you search "doors" under my user name, you should get a very detailed post.

Here is the "short list" of items you'll need:

Gen II items:

1) doors
2) inner doors
3) power window switches (need to be wire in, and wired to the doors)
4) door seals
5) interior trim panels that goes by the drivers and passengers shoulders
6) windshield surround
7) soft top
8) hard top

Many forget that their top(s) will not work with the different windshield surround.

You'll need to do something about the seat belts which are in the Gen I doors.... and inboard on Gen II cars.

I have opted for Sparco sport harnesses. These are four point harnesses that buckle like a standard seat belt.

You can put in the entire Gen II seat belt setup, to do that you'll need Gen II behind the seat trim panels, seat belt retractors and buckles. I think you'll need to put in reinforcements to mount the retractors as well, that's why I opted to use the four point harness as all the mounting points are already present

Why am I doing it? When I bought my car, one door was crunched. I was able to sell the "good door and inner panel" and not have to put in much more than it would have cost to buy a door to replace the crunched one to get the two Gen II doors...... I got the gen II inner doors from a wreck. The unexpected expensive parts turned out to be the windshield surround and the rubber...

I bought my parts over a three year period... as I found them. The last set of doors I saw in the classifieds were $5000! Windshield and surround easily $2500 if you could find one, they are tough. Rest of the parts, $2000. But at nearly 10K to do the conversion 5K if you are VERY patient looking for parts.... It is a wash with stepping up to a Gen II RT... right now Gen I RT's are in the low 40's were there are now gen II RT's in the upper 40's (with higher miles) low 50's (with lower miles)......

Hopefully I'll be able to tell you how it all works out in late March. That is when I am scheduled to pick up my car.
