Owned this 96 RT (19k miles)for 6 weeks now or so...drove into the city (25 minute ride and 50 degrees outside) last night parked in underground parking garage...came back 4 hours later and noticed a large amount of fluid on the ground right under the front of the car. I thought it was weird (having read and aware of headgasket issues with these cars) that it wasnt way under the car (say more under the motor) say more under the engine but rather further near the front maybe even under where the air box is located. I ducked down to see what I could see and it seemed to be dripping actually off the front facia underneath (you know the part that scrapes on the curbs if you pull in to far). I could actually see a drip ready to fall off...touched it and it was anitfreeze. I got in the car to drive to gas station and car heated up very quickly...filled it up with more anitfreeze and came home (no heat problems on way home) and parked it......IS this another headgasket replacing statistic??OR could it be something else since it was so far forward under the car???? Still novice owner at this point and need advice before I drop it off at my dealership.

PS-I did spend the extra money and bought a 3yr 36k miles full warrantee ...but hope this isnt the problem already....just turned 19k miles last week.

Thanks in Maryland

Hey EZ!

You and I met via email a few weeks ago. I live in Germantown too. I emailed you my number. Give me a call and I'll help you figure out the problem.

I remember another post here (try the SEARCH). He wrote that he "killed" the reservoir behind the front fascia with a LONG screw, when he went down a slope (underground garage!) and touched with the front fascia the ground at the end of the slope. The fascia bent backwards and nailed with the long screw a hole into the reservoir....?

Markus has it right - most likely you flexed the fascia and there is a screw located directly underneath the fascis overflow bottle that will poke a hole in the bottom of it...

The fascia overflow bottle is about $20, but taking hte nose off the car is the PITA part.

Once you fix it - leave that screw OUT and you'll never have that problem again!

I was the one that posted about the bolt in the facia going into the over-flow tank. It's possible that it happened to you, but when it happened to me, I was going off track and hit the bottom of the facia pretty hard (I just don't have any luck when it comes to going off track). Easy check:

Remove the tube from the surge tank to the over-flow tank (right under the pressure cap for the surge tank) Stick a funnel into it and pour a 50/50 mix into the funnel (about a cup, don't want to over fill the over-flow tank if it's not the problem). If there is an immediate puddle by your feet you have found the problem.

Thanks for the messages everyone. Im going to be looking closer into this middle of the week and Ill let you know what I find out. I didnt hit/crunch/scrape the front facia at all coming into the parking garage so dont know if that could be the cause of this. Im thinking now after a phone call with gary that maybe its either bad hoses to radiator OR leaking reserve tank. Anyhow Ill be checking to see shortly. Thanks again and stay tuned.
