Help -- Faulty Gas Gauge

We'll it finally happened, I ran out of gas on my way to work. Thank goodness it happened on a back road. As it turns out, my gas gauge is off by a quarter of tank. I have no idea how to fix this short of replacing the unit. Is there a way to reset the gauge? Any other tricks? Pls help.

I have had my viper since 2000,it a 99,my gas gauge has never read full.I have just got use to filling up the tank by checking my milage and not to forget that the gage does not read right.
