My hood pops up once in a while on the driver's side. About 1 to 2 inches. I've tried adjusting the hood latch, but not real sure what I'm doing. Is the hood supposed to make contact with the "slam bumper" when closed?

adjust the latch rails, unscrew the 2 bolts and slide them up a little. Sounds like they are too low. That is why your hood pops up once in a while. Cheers

Looking at the service manual, I see Hood Latch Striker which mounts to the hood. Is this what you mean by latch rails?

Thanks,
Pat

No, not the part attached on the hood. The latch in front of the radiator. Loosen the 2 bolts and slide it up a little.

Take a strip of paper, place an end of it over the rubber bumper, shut the hood. Raise and lower the bumper just until it can't be pulled out. In other words, not set so high that it won't allow the latch to close but not too low so the paper pulls right out.

Do this in combination with moving the latch up or down to get a perfect fit. Mark the latch with a pencil before loosening the screws.

Thanks Craig and Ulysses. Good input. Appears that the slam bumper should just "kiss" the hood when fully closed.
