Hood won\'t stay open

How do you fix a sagging hood on a 2000 GTS. It was staying up but since I oiled the hinges, it slams shut.

You need to somehow get the oil off the hinges. They are NOT to be oiled...When you do this you will have a problem.....

Thanks proracer. I actually thought of doing that. Must update my vintage muscle-car ways.

It's actually a common mistake - pull it off of there and make sure the hinges are clean - they shouldn't squeak after that.

Snake-oyl products sell a hood prop rod for about $35 608-849-9878.

Disclaimer, I have no affiliation with Snake-Oyl just remember seeing it in their catalog.

I oiled the hinges on my 2002...same result! I've been dousing them with Gumout (carb cleaner) carefully every now and then....

They'll come clean eventually. Maybe a high pressure hose wash?

Break cleaner - from any auto parts store.

Just be careful with it - It might "fuzz" your paint.

Kinda sad that the springs aren't strong enough on their own to hold the hood up... Not rocket science....

Jerry,

I believe that there is a recall on these or they can be replaced under warrenty.

Check with your dealer.

Regards.
