How do you know if your GTS stripes are factory?

How do your determine whether your stripes (1998 GTS) were put on at the factory or painted on after the car was purchased?

Interesting question!

Other than seeing the window sticker, if an aftermarket stripe is done correctly, it should be almost impossible to tell. One thing to realize is that ALL factory stripes had a "edge" similar to tape stripes, rather than a smooth transition between base color and stripe.

If the stripes were going through the plate area, that would be a dead giveaway... but other than that... it would be a tough call.

Maybe if you lifted up the windshield weatherstripping you might be able to see?

I thought there was an additional paint code for them on the car.

I believe a dealer's service department can print out all the assembly codes for you based on the VIN
