how rare is "blue" as an exterior color for 2001 rt10s? Is it "saphire blue" or "dark blue"? I was under the impression that it was a highly desired car but when i looked up the production numbers for 2001 it said they made about 300 of them. Is there a trend of these cars fetching higher prices r am i imagining things. Thanks, Kevin

It's Sapphire Blue. If you have'nt seen it, it's like a dark non metallic blue. It probably does bring in some extra money because it's a one year only color. I think the extra money (worth talking about) would probably really only show up for an extra rare car, like a super low mile ACR.

A bunch of pics in the classifieds that can be supersized to look at the color a bit better.
(you probably have already been there but just in case.;))

i like the color alot i was just wondering the rarity of them on an rt 10, i might be "misremembering" but it seems that they are fetching a significantly higher dollar tha other colors. I saw one that wasnt over priced like the other saphire blues i saw and it seemed to be a good deal. is an 01 rt10 with cognac interior and 43,000 miles for sale from the original owner for 34,000 pluse i have to count in another 2 grand to ship it. What do you think.

Get someone who is knows Vipers to take a look at it for you quick!
Maintenance records? Warranty? Car fax run? See if anyone knows the background on the car here. Good luck!

:DEntered my first car show today and won American Muscle and Best Mopar with my "01" Sapphire Blue RT/10 and I recieved alot of very positive comments on the color. Rare it is and alot of people loved the color and said it was different than the rest..."BUT"...we all have our preferences and I bought it because it was a limited color and I as well liked it. THERE ALL GOOD!!! I have been following your posts in your search for a vehicle and all I can say is if you find a "clean" car in the mid 30's I think it's a very fair deal. I feel that the Sapphire Blue could bring a little extra due to the limited numbers produced...IMO! At worst it should be equal to any others. I have been told and believe that any Viper, unless beat like a wet dog or salvaged, would not see under 30K ever in a normal economy (of course) even with a few miles if it was taken care of. Get what strikes ya!!!:)

here is the mistress of my life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!It is hard to capture the color on camera the first pic shows the slight metallic look. When clean it is hard to find a deeper or richer color. It is a pain in the butt to keep clean as it shows every spec of dust.Love the color but I am biased!!!

I'd put you money in the bank and buy a car you actually like instead.

Even among true collector cars, color is rarely a factor in price. If anything, brighter colors that "pop" attract greater attention under the auction lights.

Regardless, a sapphire car with that many miles will never be a considered a collectible, and most would argue that the cognac interior is a negative, not a plus, in terms of perceived value.

It IS a great color if you happen to like blue (which I personally do), but like Dave said in his post, buy the car because you like it and buy the one in the best condition for the $$.

what he said, I would also add if the previous owner did not take care of the paint it could require alot of tlc as sapphire shows everything.

There were 252 Sapphire 01 RT10's build and 120 had Cognac interior with the remaining 132 w black interior. I would say this is a pretty rare and desirable color.

There were also 216 Sapphire GTS's made, 86 with silver stripes and 130 monotone and 161 of them had black interior with 55 having cognac.

There were also 77 ACR's built this color with 49 having stripes and 28 monotone.

Sapphire is a beautiful dark blue metallic that takes on a life of its own pending on what lighting it is in. It can be mistaken for black at dusk and has incredible depth in the bright sunlight. It is by far one of my favorite Viper colors.

As for whoever said that color does not effect the demand for collector cars, this could not be more false especially with the vipers. Reds seem to be the cheapest due to them being made every year and the graphite and sapphires seem to demand top dollar due to the low numbers and how incredible the viper look in those colors. If you are looking for something collectible I would try to find one with less than 10,000 miles. And please don't confuse collectible with being an investment as no cars are a very good investment. Some will hold their values better than others but you always lose your socks when you go to sell them.

I was offered a billion dollars for mine. I was going to sell but the kid was only 6 and could not get financing.
When it's clean it the bests color on vipers. It seems to change with lighting, sometimes it looks black other times purple.

ditto.....buy a car because you love it, not because you want to make a million on it. especially, in todays market.

yea, buy what you like, not what someone tells you is rare/limited/collectable/desired whatever.

Im not much of a fan of the dark blue myself, but wouldnt mind having one w/silver stripes. Also, i think the safblue is one of the few colors that looks nice w the cognac

i would never buy a car i didnt like. I absolutely love the sapphire and cognac. cognac is the best!!!!! i love blue cars, my z06 was blue with white stripes. Im not buying the car to be part of a collection. Im buying it do drive every chance i get thats why i really dont care about the miles not being under 20k. I just want the best bang for my buck. If i buy a car with super low miles im going to feel bad when i start racking up miles. If i buy one with high 30s or 40s i m not going to feel bad when i put 5 k miles a year on it. By no means will it be a commuter car, i just want to enjoy it to its full potential.
