HP gain from rockers upgrade only?

Let's say you had a stock Gen1, tubes, filters, stock exhaust but cats gone. You aren't going to put headers or another exhaust on or anything expensive. You're replacing your head gaskets so you have one chance to replace rockers and/or rods.

Would you? Is it worth the $$? How much HP could you get from only upgrading rockers?

not exactly sure what I gained sinceI had the vec 2 installed at the same time, but from what I hear its around 20 - 30 RWHP.

I went from 417rwhp to 447rwhp on my Gen-1 adding T&D (Mopar) rockers and an underdrive crank pulley. Huge SOTP difference... pulls as hard as my ACR in the low to mid power band.

I tried to do it , but my stands,(raised flat head surface that the T&D's bolt to). were to high , out of spec . so I sold the T&D's and kept the stock rockers. T&D's do require adjustment periodically or risk breaking for the best performance. I am still making over 700 RWHP with the stock heads and rockers. Jesels are good but make some noise.Someday I will mill my head stands for some 1.7s , 20-30 HP is sitting on the table waiting. Make sure you measure the clearance or you will risk damage. Some people just bolt em on , but if you drive your car they will wear due to the wrong alignment and you risk serious damage after the miles rack up.

Craig,

Give Sean or Dave a call at Roe Racing. They were both very informative about roller rocker benefits. Easy mod to make once you understand the concept of proper adjustment and testing for proper alignment/contact with valve stem heads. Roe Racing suggesting going with the HD pushrods as well when converting to roller rockers. I went with the Harland Sharp roller rockers and HD pushrods from Roe Racing. Very happy with the results!

The ACR has TNT headers and heads, T&D's, 70mm t-bodies, ported intake, high-flow Cats, and Corsa exahust. The two dyno graphs are identical low to mid, and then the RT power falls off at the top end.

Just out of curiosity, does this make a difference in exhaust tone? I know when I switched from 1.6 to 1.7 roller rockers on my Mustang, it gave it a......SLIGHTLY....ballsier sound at idle. You could tell the difference.

I love my Jesels. I have no dyno numbers to show, but the car seemed stronger and they are awesome in quality.

Just curious, how often do you guys check your tolerances after installing the new rockers? And how often have they actually needed adjustment?

With hydraulic lifters you should only have to set them one time and that is at the installation. I re-checked mine after about 1,000 miles on the rocker arms. I was just checking to make sure the preload on the lifter was the same as when I installed the rocker arms. It wouldn't have been necessary, but I just wanted to check. It is not necessary to check them again unless you had a suspect noise or other problem.
