Idle Speed On \'97?

Can someone tell me what the idle speed should be on my '97 GTS? After it is up to normal operating temp., she idles about 450 RPM's, according to the instrumentation. I know the cam is lopey (I like) in the '97's, but this 450 RPM seems awfully low, or is it about right? Thanks all...If I need to adjust it, can anyone enlighten me on the procedure?

Re: Idle Speed On \'97?

Hi Mike.

Mine idles at ~750 RPM, which is the small tick just before the "1". The large tick next to the "0" is 500 RPM.

Dave, seems like mine might need the idle speed adjusted some. Mine adles just below the first mark above 0. Is there a certain procedure for adjusting the idle speed, or is it pretty straightforward? (I haven't had the Viper long enough to really check it out well, and I am working 12 hr. nights this weekend). Thanks...

Just pop the hood and follow the throttle cable to the front of the Intake, You will see the screw up there that needs turning. I believe it's a star driver that you need, a T-20 I think.

I would get a real tach reading before changing anything. The stock one is not that accurate. Are you having problems keeping it running or does it just look too low on the gauge?

You cannot adjust the idle, the PCM maintains the idle. I believe the hash mark you are referring to is the 750 rpm position. Most of the cars idle at 650-725.

She has no problems idling, but it just seems awfully low from the sound. Maybe it is right, since I have no problems keeping it running...I better leave it alone I suppose...Thanks
Mike
