I need some help with figuring out the best choice for rims for me. Since I have always run stockers, this isnt an area I am well versed in, so any help would be appeciated.

I have narrowed it down to what I like, but need feedback on quality, performance, and best pricing options

I heard iforged is having issues with breakage? Is this true, or isolated instances? I really drive my car aggressively, so if its stress related, these will be subject to such !!

So here is my Favorite (can anyone tell me what iForged version these are?):

You must be registered for see images

Next favorite is CCWs SP550's:

So tell me best place to get the best price
and best choice of wheel to go with for aggressive driving (hell even tire and size recommendations for performance !!)

thanks for the help guys.

Oh also, I heard the CCWs dont have a clear coat on them? They are polished alumn. But with out the clear coat, doesnt that leave you having to constantly polish them ? yikes !! What about iforged ?

I'd stick with John Purner at CCW. That guy has the best customer service of any wheel manufacturer anywhere.

As for breakage, all wheels will break when beat on enough. I've had Forgelines and I've had Purners break.

When my Forgelines broke Forgeline offered to fix them and send me a bill.
When my CCWs broke John Purner fixed them and I never saw a bill.

That kind of service wins me over and it doesn't hurt that Purners are also the most affordable wheel on the market.

Thanks Chuck.. yeah I never heard anything bad about CCWs. The only concern I have with them is that they are not "clear coated" and I am not a poser, I'd rather have them cleared so i can spend more time driving on them, then cleaning/polishing them. My car sees rain, and brake dust, and that wont be changing any time soon.

ccw's are nice but your ass end will stick out a little bit and you will need to grind down your front caliper bolts. Worth it? maybe so, jon is a super nice guy and builds a hell of a wheel.
personally I like a hre 545 in gunmetal or graphite with a flat lip.
since I have your cc # thats what I just ordered for the lotus!

Awesome.. get me a set too on my CC #.. that way when I do fraud charge back thing, you get nailed.. not me, and I get a great set of rims !!

Also, are you SURE you know what the hell you are talking about on a gen 3 about having to grind down a front caliper bolt?

also, what the heck do you mean about the ass end sticking out a little bit?

BTW, Lee wasnt sure if you and I were friends, cuz we are constantly going at it on here. lol.. I found that amusing. Ron and I are friends, and this is the last time I am going to admit it. ;-)

thanks for the Van this weekend, came to be very helpful.

and I am not a poser,

LOL I know you're not. Nothing wrong with keeping things clean. Talk to John. If he can't clear coat them for you he can give you some good advice for getting it done. But I don't know how much benefit there would be to clear coating over John's finish. He has a polisher over there that turns aluminum into a mirror.

Give him a call.

buttnutt, last I talked to ccw regarding 505's for an srt they mentioned that you would need to grind a front caliper bolt down a little bit for the fronts to fit. as well, the offset for the rears will cause them to stick out about 1/2 inch from the wheel well.

knowing what an anal retentive lil man you are I thought I would mention this

Howdy Folks!

I've had IForged and CCW's (second set of CCW's actually, classics for track, SP500's for street)

Here's the thing - if you've never dealt with cleanup/polishing on a 3-piece wheel (with exposed fasteners) it's sort of a PITA. The single piece CCW designs are +much+ easier to clean/polish if that factors in at all.

The 3-piece of course have the advantage of _potentially_ being cheaper to fix (since you can swap shell 1/2's, or centers, etc.). In fact, I had John fix up my Classics to sell, and for about $500 I got two new outers, repainted centers, rebalancing and a full re-polish.

CCW also seem to have quicker turn around, both for new orders and for refurb/repair. (Plus, I'm in Vilano Beach, ~1.5 hours or so from CCW so I can do "local" pickup - CCW is worth checking out if you're local).

The 1-piece CCW's seem to be roughly 2-3lbs lighter as well vs. the comparable IForged design (like an SP500/550 vs. a I/F Trial)

If I were going to do a different center vs. lip finish though (like polished w/ black centers), I'd stick with a 3-piece as it allows it to be done easily at the OEM level (vs. a CCW where you'd have to deal with a 3rd party paintshop).

Just my $0.02

(Side note: I am once again lurking...time for a new ride...time for a roadster, there might only be one choice for me!)

Either way you will be happy but I went with Iforged. CCWs are a lot cheaper though and still look just as good. I never knew what finish they were though.

John,

That pic is of my car. Those wheels are IForged Astras with a chrome lip and brushed aluminum/clearcoated center. I wanted the wheel finish to have the least amount of maintenance. These wheels are extremely easy to clean!

I personally haven't had any problems with the IForged wheels.

Any chance you can email some close ups of those wheels? What size, and what tires did you go with?

Thanks !!

I'm not a big aftermarket wheel fan but I REALLY like those Astras. Nice rims Sal. Where are they on their website? I must be blind.

Austin - thanks.

I love the look on the Astras on the Gen III...sweet. Anyone have photos of Iforged Astras on their Gen II? I've seen black ones but I'd be curious to see the same style/color as above on a Gen II blue/white GTS or any color GTS for that matter. :)
