Ok, I have had my car 4 days and am already looking at mods. :2tu: I have read about the 355 gears and can see why they would be good (Geez right now I am at 1500 RPM at 80 MPH) and I see a set of new cats and exhaust real soon (way too quiet!)I have run accross a KN induction upgrade P# 63-1536 pretty cheap (couple hundred) and wonder if it is worth it. You gotta get the air in before the engine can pump it out. Anyone use it - what do you think?

I did the 355 wish I had done the 373 instead .. 355 still doesn't give you sixth gear for cruising, try 373. If you are tracking car stay with 307. For the street do 373... K & N is a waste of time stock air system does a good job just add green filters.random tech cats and corsa track DC pcm and 170 thermo... 2000 miles on 06 coupe a okay. The noise of the exhaust keeps you in touch with that great V10 and out of touch with the clunky driveline. Change the shifter so you don't pick up first instead of 3rd. And remember to warm it up before you get on it, expecially with the cold weather coming on. With the 170 it takes longer to warm up, watch your oil pressure. Mine runs 175 water and 180 oil temp. When it's warm drive it always well above 2000 it likes rpm.

Well...I will give you the "other side". 3.55's for the street. I tried 3.73's, and too low in my opinion. Went back to 3.55's. I also use the K+N system on my cars. Not going to matter much either way...but have tried stock, Greens, K+N...and feel the car breathes a bit better with K+N's.

Here is what the STR Engineers wrote me during the tech session ..... I believe what they meant here was that the K&N would help..... My question is in the [quotes] The SRT responses is after the ***. With regards to gears, someone was talking for street use there used to be a set of 3.45's around that were perfect for street use ?

Her is the question session:

I would like to do a few things to increase performence, one was an exhaust noted in an earlier post. The other I have been thinking about is a K&N Box. In your opinion, what are the top three or four mods to make without decreasig reliability, yet giving a little extra punch/performance ? Regards, John (Stray Cat)
X x x I think your talking about your 2005 Viper??? I would get the street exhaust (P4510608). Addressing your "decreasing reliability"...well that's tough and intake would certainly help, the underdrive crank pulley (P4510177), and the lightweight flywheel (P4510179).

Regards,

John

Thanks for your responces! It sounds like a better intake system - whether green filters or KN are a yes. From everything I am reading exhaust is a must also - it looks to me the Mopar or Corsa is most popular with low restriction cats a must for the exhaust to really work.

I have some gearing calculator programs I can use to help with gear selection. I will spend a little time with it and see what looks best. I don't want to go too short and gain 6th but loose 1st.

I agree with everyone's ideas above except that some of you are saying that the K & N Filtercharger does not work. Below are the dyno numbers for our AtRo Sealed SAir Box. the numbers tell the stock.

STOCK = 523.65 EHP & 572.00 ETQ @ 5400 RPMs / 445.1 RWHP & 486.2 RWTQ @ 5400 RPMs

ATRO AIR BOX = 541.18 EHP & 588.94 ETQ @ 5400 RPMs / 460.0 RWHP & 500.6 RWTQ @ 5400 RPMs

INCREASE OF = 17.53 EHP & 16.94 ETQ @ 5400 RPMs / 14.90 RWHP & 14.40 RWTQ @ 5400 RPMs
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
By changing the Air Box, installing a free flowing exhaust with Hi-Flow cats, and reprogramming the ECM we dyno at the following numbers.

558.67 EHP & 605.88 ETQ @ 5400 RPM's / 474.87 RWHP & 515.00 RWTQ @ 5400 RPMs
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If You don't want to go with the airbox change Sean Roe sells a great fitting filter with same specs as the K&N but for less $$$
