A few pics from last weekend.

Jim and Debbie Tait hosted the first event of the season, and what a great time! Jim is well know for his attention to detail and this was one well thought out and executed event. His personal knowledge of the Island served well to provide us with a fun, well paced weekend with something for everyone.

It was kind of a gamble having an event this early in the year, even in B.C.!
The 97C (for those of us who came from the Okanagan) was a bit wet near the summit, as the picture below shows, but this was as bad as it got, and for the rest of the weekend the weather was spectacular!

Members filtered in from around the map, the trip over on BC Ferries provided a breather and an oportunity to stretch our legs, (or detail the car below decks for some) though it was a bit brisk to hang out on the sun deck the views through the Georgia Straight are hard to top.

Once we were in Victoria, we didn't see as much as a drop of rain. Flowers were out, tourists have yet to ascend on the provincial capital and we were greeted warm weather and warm welcomes wherever we travelled. As we gathered from all points at the Coast Victoria Harbourside there was time to unwind before heading out for dinner at Milestones (also harbourside) with great views of marine and air-marine traffic as the sun set and the lights of the parliment buildings became our backdrop.

Members from Vancouver Island joined familar faces from the mainland and the Okanagan for a good meal Friday night.

There's no shortage of photo ops in Victoria, no matter the time of day...or year.

Saturday morning greeted us with partly couldy skys, and cool temps. This wouldn't last as by early afternoon temps were in the upper teens C. All those who stayed at the Coast Victoria had a great nights' sleep and most enjoyed a very good breakfast with a view in the hotels fine restaurant overlooking the mid-harbour, front and centre for seaplane traffic.

We met in front with some long time VCA members who reside on the Island as well as a couple of fresh faces.
A hearty welcome to Peter Vik who showed up with his very clean 1997 GTS in (classic) Blue and White along with his lovely wife, and also to Art Curovik who brought his sharp 1995 R/T 10 in yellow, brave enough to leave the top behind! I was a pleasure to meet our newest members and to have them along for the drive!

Here we stop for a quick look at the Pacific before cruising through some spectacular areas of Victoria seldom seen by the uninitiated. Again, thanks to Jim who thoroughly planned out our route, taking us past some stunning scenery on winding smooth roads.

From there we wound through Victoria and then out to the Malahat for a drive up the island toward Nanaimo, stopping for fuel along the way where we took over the Chevron in Duncan, on to Chemainus for lunch then up to Parksville, our final destination.

Below: If you've never stopped in Coombs, do yourself a favour and do so next time you're through that way.
We didn't see any goats on the rooftops, it was a bit early for that, but they were around.
Great ice cream and plenty of souvenier shops, artisan studios and more, it was fun!

Prominade Drive in Nanaimo provided great photo op., and Otter sightings if you were lucky.

It has been several years since a VCA Western Canada event has been held on Vancouver Island, the success of this past weekend should ensure that it will not be long before the next one!
