It\'s already started....the TRASH TALK!

Well, I was at my local Autozone today looking for RC12ECC plugs in preparation for the arrival of my, 'new-to-me' 98' GTS. After looking up the part# and being unable to find it, the guy says, "So, you have a VIPER?" I say "Yes, I have one on the way and I'm just looking for maintenance things before it gets here" He then challenges me to a race 'down by the river' where all the local 'boys' go to race. I say "No thanks...I'm too old for that stuff" and he retorts "Right...you're just afraid that a Camaro may beat you!" I just smiled and walked out...with my 3 year old son mind you! He then yells, "I'm serious, bring it down there! OMG! I don't even have the car yet and I'm being challenged! Is this how it's going to be guys? Tell me it ain't so! I just want to enjoy my VIPER in peace!

I was in a local speed shop about 8 years ago getting some an fittings. When a kid walks up to the counter next to me and asks if that is my Viper out front. I tell him that it is and he goes on to tell me how his 85 Monte Carlo will "kick my a$$" he goes on and on about how much faster his car is and how I over paid for a Corvette wannabe. So I just let him go on and on. When he finally shuts up I say, your car may very well be faster but how many people run up to your car in a parking lot and say OMG a 85 Monte Carlo! He just looked at me, turned and walked away.

Get used to it it will happen again.

I get that a couple times a month by some dumb kid at a gas station in a civic or old impala. When challenged to a race, I always respond with, "No way... you'd probably win."

Shuts them up real fast as the absurdity of the statement sinks in.

Enjoy a Viper in peace? Uh oh, you have another thing coming. While not every guy will challenege you to a race (but a lot will), I hope you're ready for people wanting to talk to you at red lights, parking lots, etc. Owning a Viper makes you the life of the party...whether you want to be or not. 95% of the people you'll meet will be nice, respectable people who just want to talk about your car...the other 5% will be the ones trying to get you to race their 1991 Firebird and rooting you own to do burnouts at redlights

In the last four years, I've heard only a few stupid things, but mostly I just get a lot of admiring looks.

Sometimes they even look at my GTS....

I have FINALLY got my car on the road for the second time, and I have been having similiar experiences.
Two trucks trying to "draft" my exhaust tips.
One bike allowing me to hear his 13000 Rpms in my right ear, and a turbo RX-8 trying to circle around me in three lanes of traffic as though I was back in a game of "asteriods".
I had no idea the car would get this much reaction. How do you guys keep your cool? ? ?

I get that crap ALL of the time. The worst was the guy a couple months ago that I saw at Pep Boys. He drove up in some piece of crap like 1980 Camaro, and caught me getting out of the car. After numerous anti-Dodge comments, he informed that "you should have bought a Z06 instead."

Just last week, in heavy stop and go traffic, some over-the-hill guy pulls up about an inch from my rear bumper, in an obvious attempt to intimidate me. I'm not going to stop traffic and make a scene over what amounts to shadow boxing, so I just changed lanes and left him back there. Who cares about dem joiks anyway?

Owning the Viper is like having a **** woman on a date, if you can't stand the attention, its not for you.

Weird. I have never been challenged either in person or while driving. Just getting thumbs up or lip reading people saying. OMG, it's a Viper! Maybe Colorado folk are different. If someone where to challenge me, I'd politely invite them to a day on the road course to see if they can keep up

If you’ve never experienced it, try this: Arrange to have a date with a supermodel who knows karate; then rent a convertible, paint it fuchsia; and ask your date to ride next to you ******* through a college town just after a home game lets out. You’ll:

(A) get a lot attention and thumbs-up signs

(B) feel like some kind of super stud yourself

(C) instantly draw a crowd of young men anywhere you stop for gas, asking questions like, Is she yours? How fast is she? and Can I have a spin?

(D) no doubt find a challenge or two from the crowd, knowing full well you and your supermodel date could whup the drunk guy and his sorority girlfriend

and

(E) eventually get tired of the attention and be forced to speed away to find serenity and an open road to enjoy the moment for yourself.

Such is the case driving a Dodge Viper. But, hey, someone’s gotta do it, right?

Gotten this a couple times too. I just let them say whatever they want. Best is when you are on the road and they rev at you. I would rev back and then just let them take off. It is funny to see their faces.

My favorite was an 80's S-10 little pick up that pulled up next to me at a stop light... and lit up the rear tires..... and I mean smoked 'em good.

The driver looked over at me (with his girlfriend next to him) and nodded to me..... I yelled over... "no thanks.... my tires don't cost $99 each at Pep Boys"....

The light turned green and the S-10 just sat there.

I used to tell them it had a salvage title and was a butchered up job and the last guy put a V8 out of a Dakota pick up in it and it won't run worth a sh*t, but it sure does look good, don't it!

It can and does get a bit old after awhile - some days more than others.

I have found out that most mustangs and many ricers with a coffee can for a muffler within a 30 mile radius of Bartonville, now appear to have viper homing devices!

i usually tell them "i would race you, but i still dont shift this thing worth a da-mn, and you would probably win anyway, sorry."

this is also another reason i tinted my windows. i know it is illegal in IL to this, but it does give me a buffer zone against most of them, and often works especially when they hear that i have turned on the stereo and now have it cranked.

Dragracers. If they can turn faster lap times in their bucket than I can in mine, THEN I might be impressed. Thing is, none of them could complete one lap on a track without embarrassing themselves.

I do not race everyone that comes along, but, if your ride is worthy and you aint no punk ricer, we are gonna go for it on green, and usually you will feel what it is like to get snake bite....and if your in a friggin Vette this is a open challenge, I do not care if you are the 50th Vette I come across that day, prepare to have your asp handed to ya...

So Plum, what would you do if you had a car like Chad's Bumble bee, Paolo's TT B/W GTS or SVS's TT rocket sled... all tuned up and set to go and then someone pulls next to you in a camero or even a ricer with a G/F in passanger seat... go easy? or dust em so hard they couldnt see the light of day LOL

I agree...lots of ricers and stangs reving it up on the freeway.... the thing that creeps me out is when they follow you around.

Last Saturday night after leaving the drag strip, I go to Sonic for a bite and two Hondas follow me in. They walk up and say "I'll give you $5 for a ride!?" I said no. Next thing you know I have seven teens sitting with me wanting to talk about Vipers. I am usually not nice, kinda like John B. at the Parts Rack. I was this time, but I've found that if I'm nice, people expect rides. Yeah, all seven of you.....right. Five bucks each, what a deal!

You'll see... it only gets worse. You can't be nice, or you'll be spending all day giving every 8 to 80 yr old rides around the neighborhood and answering questions like, "Why do you have speakers on your hood?". You can't be a ****, or risk getting keyed when you're not looking. It's a lose-lose for you.

Just when you think it's not worth the trouble... you get a few moments of peace to appreciate the snake and realize you wouldn't trade it for the world!

It's like being a celebrity. Every ones is looking at you, wanting to talk about the car.
I just wave and say thank you alot, no biggie.

The ones I don't like are the ones who think they are authorities on the car.
One time I had both my Snakes at a car show along with my buddy and his RT. Anyway this redneck walks up (this guy really fit the part)and begins to tell me how much he knows about Vipers and the SRT Ram. He's going on and on and it's getting real old real quick. So he's telling us how the SRT Ram will kill my GTS off the line. I disagreed with him almost causing a scene.
Finally, I told him the only way that Ram will launch faster than my coupe would be to load his fat girlfriend into the box. Then, but only then would he have enough weight to get the traction that he would need.
He just walked away **********.
