k&n fuel injection performance kit?

i have a 97 gts and my question is will the k&n filters,smooth tubes and airbox assembly improve the car or hurt it in any way?i have read about it and see that the filters are open to rain and what have you,are there any worries about this?also they say you have disconnect the battery while you install it,for what reason,thanks for your help!

I have 1 still in the box, never got around to installing it on the 98.

The battery disconnect is probably so the PCM will go through a complete relearn while going through the drive cycle. Or as a generic safety warning.

The k@N box is good for sealing out hot air. However, the s-tubes that come with it are too restictive to get any good hp gains. If you modify the box and put on some smooth tubes, you can definately get some hp gains.
