Anybody have problems from dumping the clutch to fast on their Viper. Such as shift knob going crazy?
I'v been told, I'm letting off on the clutch to quick to smoke the tires. I can't believe I'm the first person to pop a clutch on a viper.

What do you mean shift knob going crazy? Is it popping out of gear?
If you are lauching at 5000rpm you might not even hear your tires spin, they would be floating above the pavement!! :D

If you are talking about wheel hop that is generally from too low an rpm not too high. And certainly not from dropping the clutch too fast. If you want less spin, let it out slower (this is all common sense of course) but if you want to roast the tires you just let it out as fast as possible. With the rpm anywhere north of 2500 you should spin without wheel hop. Unless you are rolling and dropping it in 3rd gear or something? The only other thing I can think of is you are mashing the gas after you drop the clutch and hitting the rev limiter, which kills the engine for a split second and you'll definitely have things "go crazy"

If you are looking for smoke. Set your rpm at 3000 or so, at a dead stop, in first gear and drop the clutch. Then get on the brakes quite hard (brake stand) with your clutch foot while maintaining the rpm around 3000 to 4000. Don't hit the rev limiter (6200 rpm) and don't let the rpm drop too low. Just keep your car as near stopped as possible with the brakes and you'll soon have plenty of smoke piling off the tires. You'll also soon have to go out and buy new rear tires!

Check the transmission mount. If you (or a previous owner) tore it, you will get exactly the flailing shift knob symptom that you are describing. Another symptom of a ripped tranny mount is intermittent problems getting the car in gear. If the Dodge dealer has trouble finding the Viper tranny mount, it is identical to a Chevy truck tranny mount (for $8).

By shift Knob going crazy, I mean knocking left & right in the center consul. Violently
I've had some Viper expert check the car over and they could find nothing loose or broken. I've even sent some people .jpeg videos of it happening. My next thing will be to look at the shocks real good.

I just can't believe that the car is fine and I just **** that much at smoking the tires. Or maybe I should just face facts

Yup, I get that too sometimes. You are at the threshold of having traction and not having it. The car shakes something fierce right? This is bad. Don't keep doing it. It is attributed to a # of things, pavement, temperature, condition of your tires etc...

Mine does it on the street, but not at the drag strip. Shaking = bad :D

Let me restate, if you drop the clutch at 4000 rpm on any surface and get a shifter going crazy, you have a problem and it ain't you! Wheel hop doesn't happen when you launch really hard and your tires spin easily. You must have something wrong.

Fly my a$$ down there and I'll launch your car and let you know if it's you or the car! Seriously though, maybe you could find a local club member to try it and tell you what the problem is.
