Going through my regular pre-track maintenance routine (Thanks Janni, Henry)
and when I got to replacing the pads and inspecting the rotors I noticed that
my rotors have what looks like heat spots spaced every 3 inches or so all the
way around the rotor.

I dont have unusual shuddering or vibration. It looks good from a thickness
standpoint. It has the usual fine stress/heat cracks, none that extend to the
edge of the rotor.

Is this normal? When I seat the new pads, should it fix the spots? Did I run
over a large cat????

We've had some "bluing" lately, but no spotting.

As long as you are not seeing anything like bad scoring, or surface checking that is growing / extending to edge, or feeling anything under braking - it sounds like some metallurgial reaction to heat causing discoloration.

Keep a close eye on it if you are doing an event. And it probably wouldn't hurt to have a spare for Justin (justin case!;))

What is your definition of "bad scoring"? Its more than
just blueing, there a spots. Not sure if this is what you call scoring or checking. I will watch it this weekend up at VIR.

I'll probably call Stoptech and get a set of aerorotors justin case. (Justin Bell joke?)

scoring - grooves cut into rotors. Some say it increased overall surface area ;)

checking - the small surface cracking that appears along the center sweep area. Grows in length and width and you shuld replcae before it gets to theedg or big enough to catch your fingernail.

Justin - no - coworker who is extra anal packs spare everythings - "for Justin" and when asked "who's Justin?" He says "Just in case"...... I know, lame.

have fun this weekend.
