I need a set of chrome lug nuts to fit a 1997 Viper. I'm putting on a set of 2001 OEM wheels and can't use my old ones. Are the lug nuts 1/2 X 20?

Yes (1/2" x 20)...you MIGHT consider calling JonB at PartsRack...get HRE chrome acorn nuts...they LAST LONGER than OEM variety.

I don't want to wait for shipping, wouldn't these just be stock item at most auto parts stores?..or are the Viper lugs special?

Bottom Line: Call Summit (1-800-230-3030). Order only the McGard lug nuts (P/N 64010). Summit may say another Mcgard lug nut will fit, and it is a few dollars cheaper ($45), but DOES NOT look or fit as well. You should pay around $60 if memory serves, and they are gauranteed for life. One of the best lug nuts made, without question. Not to mention, Summit will have them to your house in a day or two.

And no, don't buy the cheap junk at most autoparts stores (unless they sell McGards). Most will start to chip and rust in 1-2 years. Not all lug nuts are created equal. Trust me, I know from experience....

Taken from a post I made last year:

I decided to go with the Gorilla lugs and matching wheel locks. I didn't like the look of McGard's locks... doesn't match the rest of the lugs.

Also, the local Discount Tire was a retailer. The Gorilla acorn lugs were part #41188HT. These are the 3/4" Hex Head 1/2" Bulge Acorn nuts. They are only SLIGHTLY longer than stock nuts (about 1/8", but are still recessed [ie, they don't stick out past wheel]). The stock nuts were a joke... comprised of a 17mm nut covered by a 19mm shell.

The matching locks were roughly the same size, and are part #71481N.

I was able to get the whole set for $45 + tax, and they installed them for free (torque wrench, of course). A worthwhile investment to prevent our wheels from falling off, in my opinion.

I have a set of Gorilla's for 8 years and they still look fantastic.

The factory lug nuts are the same one used on the Durango/Dakota. The part number posted looks correct as I got two from the dealer last year. They should have them in stock.
