I'm going to 75/80 Dragway in Monrovia, MD. Friday evening for my first drag race. Any tips would be great! What tire pressure, how much of a burnout, what rpm for take off.
Any advice would be great!

75/80 *****, your better off going to MIR or Mason Dixon.

I only live a few miles from there but never go.

Do a search on drag racing, you will find all the answers you need. Have a blast.

Feel out the track, start with a quick burnout(not top fuel style). start your launches at 1800 rpm and work from there, take your time at the staging unless your racing someone else.

With stock tires, no burnout is needed. Just a quick spin to clean the tires. I run the rears around 25psi.
The rev RPM at launch will depend on track prep and weather conditions. You have to try it out a few times at differnt RPMs to get a feel for the track grip.

Remember to enjoy yourself and don't take the numbers too seriously. ;)

On your way to the start line stay out of the water if you have tires with tread.

It's hard to keep from driving through some of the mess they make with the water, so you will need to do some burnout.

You will probably find the starting line traction to be less than you are used to on the street. You may get lots of spin, watch for it.
Watch for it at the shift to second too. You can get in real trouble if the back end starts to slide after your shift to second.
If the car isn't pointing straight down the track, you should let off enough to get it back in control.

The shift out of first will probably come faster than you think. It's hard to watch what you are doing keep track of wheelspin and the tach at the same time.

Don't start out trying to get a super start or shifting real fast. Take it easy on the starts to begin with. Just make clean runs. Look at all the data on your slip and try to improve with each run.

When you are a rookie, your Viper can do more than you can get out of it.

It's an art.

Shift at 5500 rpm, I have tried it a 6000 and you can sometimes stay in third depending on how good of traction you get off the line. But you loose a lot of hp and tq b/w 5500 and 6000 rpm. I switched to shifting at 5500 and improved my times greatly. Good Luck!

Thanks for the advice guys. I would love to go to a different track, but I can only race Fridays because I work every weekend. I've not heard any great things about 75/80 Dragway. I've heard it's very outdated.
I'm in Martinsburg,W.V. Any tracks close that run Friday evenings?? I think Mason Dixon only runs on the weekends.
