Do Not repair any tire with a plug! It is not an acceptable repair and will usually void the warranty on the tire.

The only manufacturer approved repair is a patch on the inside.

The problem with a plug is that air can possibly seep past the plug and separate the plies of the tire.

Patch It! And you should replace it if you're going to go 180 mph.
Is your life only worth a few hundred dollars?

Plugging is fine. When the tire wears down, there is a chance that the plug point may leak.

However, the tire hole, given the nature of rubber and steel belting, will not result in a catastropic failure the way a rigid structure would if it was subjected to the same forces.

Unless you are racing your car at sustained high speeds, I wouldn't worry about it. Plugging is fine for normal driving.
