need help w/ brake pad

I will be changing my brake pads this weekend. I am using the EBC greenstuffs. This is my first time with these pads. In the box there are two bottles of polish. The instructions say to scuff the rotors (I assume with the polish) but noting else.

Do I need some kind of high speed polisher? How far should I go? Any help would be appriated.

Man, Ya got me on the "polish"...have put EBC Greenstuff pads on 4 of our Vipers (and 6or7 others), and have never received such an item. ..I suppose that it could be something new???..or a promo gift from the vendor???
Please give some followup if you find out.

YES, skuff the rotors thoroughly...I use a cordless drill, and a 3" pad (120 grit ??)...from a kit by 3M called "Brake Rotor Surfacing Kit"...have seen a similar pad at Sears for less.

Polish were in two small unmarked black bottles, ( i assume one for each set of pads ). I don't think they are samples as there is no markings on them, except for the word polish hand written on both bottles with a marker. Also no instruction as to what to do with them.

I bought the pads from PartsRack, but can't get a hold of John B. ,as he's at an event this weekend.

Could these be to use on the rotors?

doesn't look like wheel polish. Why would they send wheel polish anyways.

I'm stumped. Whats worst is that no one is available till monday to explain, in the meantime i have to do the pads tomorrow

At this point, I would NOT use the polish...OR, delay the entire job until you can clarify the situation. Feel free to call me if you like...or, send me an e-mail with your number.

I got the EBC green pads from Parts rack as well. Mine came with a bunch of promo bottles like car wash and wax. I would say don't use the "polish" from EBC just scuff without anything.

Turns outs that they were just samples. JonB had them drop shipped staight from the supplier who put them in the box. Don't know why he would add samples without any additional info on them, maybe he forgot.

Just put the EBC's with their slotted and drilled rotors, excellent all around and great value. THe polish is new product pushing their waxes, no comment on the polish

Wouldn't make sense to polish the rotors anyhow, unless there was sand inside it to scuff the rotors...

Let us know what you think of the pads. I personally didn't care for them...

Do you have the 3M kit like mentioned above? If you just put the EBC's on without scuffing the rotors you will squeak.

I don't have the 3M kit, however, i talked to the supplier and he said the rotors could be scuffed with a simple scuff pad.

Anyone else do this? If so, how did it work out.

I heard the same thing but the 3M pad obviously scuffs in a circular pattern and makes it even. Like a mini turning of the rotors. Attach to drill bit, very easy to do. Trust me, spend the money here before you do this and come back in a month complaining about squeaking.

Would cutting/resurfacing the rotors achieve the same result as scuffing them? I assume so.

Just buy a 5" circular medium grit fibre pad from 3M, attach to drill and scuff away. The rear rotors come off easily. The front rotors don't so doing the surface of the rotor that faces the inside of the car is a bit more hassle but easily doable. You just want to remove all the old brake pad material so the new material can bed with the rotors properly. Follow proper bedding procedure for best results!

Bill, the kit is carried on most Snap-on trucks...about $40.00...I like them, and, since I enjoy helping Fellow Club Members with their cars, I usually keep several kits here...easy job on a mid-rise lift.

You can do it for LESS at Sears...I have used both kits.

I used a 3M Sandblaster (medium grit) sanding sponge on my rotors to scuff them. You can get them at any hardware store. It worked fine. I love the EBC's for no squeal & no dust, but as for stopping power they leave something to be desired.
