gotZ06 you're gonna stir it up with this one!

If you think it looks like a Z06 - fine, I'm glad it didn't settle for a Z06 "power" specs.

Cross post:
Well, so far on the Viper board people have said that it looks like:

Ferrari 550
Caramro SS
Corvette C5
Mercedes somethingorother
Honda whateveritwas
I even saw a new Thunderbird with a very similiar front (I think it was a t-bird anyway)
etc...

While I'm in agreement (I personally think it looks the most like a Ferrari 550), the fact that it looks VERY similiar to so many cars tells me that all the other cars look like each other, which tells me that it's a very popular styling and obviously no one is guilty of not integrating some of it into their design...

A few comments IMHO

1) Paul Mamba (comparing GenI to Gen II post) I'm beginning to see your point now.

2) If you want to compare the two cars, compare the specs.

3) Those who live in glass houses... (Take a look at this Vette Prototype. Front end looks like Modena)
Motor Trend 2004 Vette

4) Aerodynamic design has similarities in many vehicles.

5) Where is IEATVETTES when you need him. His response to the Vette boys making comments like "Doesn't the new viper look like a wannabe Z06 that had a head-on collision with a honda s2000" should invoke a colorful retort

Aside from the thick, clumsy tail-section, the only item that the two designs share is how much I like them - which is only slightly. Looking forward to the new coupe if it replicates the GTSR design study (sans wing) and hoping the C-6 will offer some aesthetic (and performance) gains as well.

May 1998 M/T clocked a STOCK 1997 Viper at 192.6 MPH. The car had "11,000 abusive journalist miles on it..." A true example of the belief that these cars get faster after getting some miles on them.... Lots faster (These days M/T folds in the Viper Side Mirrors, wish they had thought of it for that test).

Although some think the car in the test was a 1998 because the magazine was 5-98, the Viper was a 1997 Red GTS with Yellow wheels and Yellow decals, the only year of that color package in the GTS. Wait, is that a "BTR" sticker on the car? -- ringer---jk.

(Marc, got that article framed yet?)

The rest of the cars in the test:

Lotus V-8 Turbo 179

Ferrari 355 F1 177

Porsche 911 174

Corvette 173

Aston DB7 163

BMW M Roadster 139

Panoz AIV Roadster 134

I think the best quote is from the designer's themselves...

"Chief Engineer Dave Hill told us that he wasn't interested in a horsepower race with Viper. He said that the Vette team is more interested in 'balanced performance' for its customers." So is Hyundai.

Is that "wasn't interested in a horsepower race with Viper" or should it say "was incapable of competing in a horsepower race with Viper"?

It's unfortunate the Viper lost it's visual prominence, but at least it didn't lose it's power **********!

Just checked out what a S2000 looks like.

You vette boys must be smoking crack. It is the least similiar of any of the cars that I posted above.

Looks closer to a miata than a '03. IMNSHO.

Don't flame me guys. I love my 2000 GTS. This is my third Viper so you know I'm a fan for life (of the current body style).

With that being said, the 2003 looks like the offspring of the Camaro, Corvette, Honda S2000, BMW Z3 and a Miata.

I picked up an automobile magazine the other day and thought to myself, "Now that's an interesting body kit for a Camaro." When I looked at the caption and it said, "Viper 2003", I had to put down the magazine and shake my head. I still haven't read the article.

Sorry, the current body style is the only one that will stay in my garage.

I know, to each their own!

Steve
