The '96 RT-10 I have recently purchased already has the following modifications:

smoothe tubes
headers
roller rockers
cat back exhaust
high flow cats

I haven't yet begun to explore the performance potential of the car at this level of tune and it'll more than keep me happy for the time being. However, I was wondering what the next stage of non-forced induction modifications would typically be, what the approx cost would be (to get done properly) and the expected power gain from these?

I intend at some stage to take the car back to the UK with me and would want to get all the mods I could afford done here in CA before I do. I'm presuming it will be a lot more difficult and expensive to get modifications carried out in the UK, there being so few Vipers there.

Thanks,

Hamish

Vec 2 ($1,000) and what you gain totally depends on how much dyno time you buy.

70mm Throttle bodies /w 3" inlet tubes ($600) appx 15 RWHP.

Greg Good heads and cam package ($4300) well over 100 hp and tq at the wheels is not uncommon.

Aluminum flywheel ($480) it will make the RPM's rev up quicker and givethe car better throttle response as well as improve 0 - 60 times and of course prolong the life of the motor, and if you gonna do a flywheel you might as well do a centerforce clutch ($520)

Fluidnye aluminum radiator ($690) big time improvment in cooling.

Roe front fascia cooling duct ($220) 25hp

and of course drag radials for better grip Khumo seems to be the what alot of guys are using.

Good luck

BTW most of what I mentioned can be found at www.roeracing.com

All good options! :2tu:

One thing stuck out to me though. 100rwhp from heads and cam? That sounds like a LOT of power for Heads/cam. Is that right?

Don't forget that it on the special Stugots dyno. :D Which also accounts for the 25 hp from the Roe air flow kit.

I say short gears and sticky tires.

Depends on your performance goal?

1. Road Course
2. Drag Racing
3. HP dyno days

For 1,2 and 3 Skip Barber Driving schools.

Then for 1 more Skip Barber schools, Viper Days, Autocrossing, Open track events.

For 2, go inside the motor and the extent of work will depend on four budget. Heads, pistons, rods, extrude hone the intake, stroker.

For 3 same as 2.

Fred, have you ever had a post that didn't mention something about driving school?

It's almost comical how you bring up the subject always in competely unrelated threads. :D

Off topic, but - Fred, I am curious what your affiliation is with this driving school. Do you work for them? Just curious.

I'm sure on a twin turbo car the gains would be much more substantial than on a bone stock car. This is one of the classic "hocus pocus" tricks commonly used by head manufacturers/porters. "I gained over 100 RWHP on my Viper by adding ported heads*"

*Note the car already has a 10# supercharger, full exhaust, roller rockers, VEC2, etc.

And all the above will FAIL the UK's Government Test centre for vehicle import.

Nope bring it over stock and fill every part of the car with the parts

I know in the Mustang world, Trick Flow used to say their Twisted Wedge heads added like 75 RWHP (meanwhile it was adding 75 RWHP to a Vortech blown full bolt on car, that they swapped the stock heads off of).

Pretty misleading, but yeah, they gained 75 RWHP.

What performance mods to make? The first mod is to the Viper's Pilot. A stock Viper in the hands of a good driver will smoke a 1000hp twin turbo Viper with a novice on a road course.

Knowing how to drive a Viper safely and to its performance limits (or any ultra high performance vehicle) takes driving skill which most of use are lacking! The skill to begin mastering a Viper is provided by schools like Skip Barber.

Regarding my relationship with Skip Barber. I am a long time student having completed 14 of their programs from the basic two day program to their Racing programs with Car control and VCA specific programs. And I worked with Skip Barber, Dodge Marketing, VCA to get a discount for VCA members. I organize(as well asTerri Angen) VCA specific programs with Skip Barber for our club members.

if your RT is 10 years old, when it returns to the UK you wont need a SVA, but it will need a MOT before being allowed on the roads, and it will have to pass this test anually (includes an emmision test)

It should be easy to pass this test if you know the right garage. So Mod away :)

Keep in mind that Trick Flow are by no means the only company who does that.

If you want, you can PM me about your Mustang combo. I had Edelbrock Performer heads on one of my stangs, and I recommend those. Check out my site for more info...

Go to the convertible or the coupe section....
