One guy recently posted that he just hung his OE O2 sensors up in the frame somewhere to sniff ambient air and hasn't gotten a code yet..

interesting.

Does anyone know the voltage that the PCM wants to see from the rear sensors?

Unless he has the fuel being controlled by something, it is probably running like crap!

I'm not up on all that electronic stuff, but how would an O2 sensor sniffing ambient be worse than a simulator that's essentially giving the computer one constant reading?

It's quite a bit more complicated than I'll explain here, but an O2 sensing ambient air would be far worse than that of the leanest possible fuel mixture coming through the exhaust.

With nothing else to consider (controlling system, O2 simms, etc...) The OBDII system would detect a lean condition and therefore add fuel to the mixture. The result after a short time of this would most likely be engine roughness, misfires, and fouled plugs.

If your theory of just disconnecting them made any sense, then manufacturers wouldn't have put O2 sensors down stream on any vehicle in production.

rear O2s only monitor cat performance. They don't adjust fuel.

Well I am getting the following codes:

P0138 -
O2 sensor circuit high volts (bank 1 sensor 2)

P0141 -
O2 sensor heater circuit malfunction (bank 1 sensor 2)

At the moment my driver's rear O2 is "hanging" with the hole plugged. The passenger side is plugged in and in the pipe. I had some problems getting my O2 sensor on the driver side to fit in the new exhaust so we went with this solution. I thought nothing of it because the front O2's were installed and working.

Do I need O2 simms or should I let the passenger rear hang also?

Thanks!
