OEM PS2 Compound vs Sport Cup Compound??

I've noticed on some other threads the claim that our OEM PS2 tires have the same compound as the Sport Cups that come on the ACR's. Aftermarket PS2's don't have this compound....is this true? If this is true, besides tread design, are there any carcass differences between the OEM PS2's and the Sport Cups on the ACR?

I did an autocross a couple of weeks ago and noticed that my stock PS2's really picked up a lot of pebbles at the end of a 50 second run...just like full-on autocross compound tires do.

IIRC, I think I saw the first mention of the OEM compound being the same as the ACR Sport Cups by the Grail Keeper.

Thanks,
George

There is a dual compounding that was specified by SRT for the Viper. The regular PS2 and other car specific PS2's are all somewhat different compounds or mixtures of them.

Thanks Mark,

Does this mean the OEM Viper PS2 would be faster around a road course than the standard aftermarket PS2?

Also, if replacing OEM PS2's are they available to the public?

Cheers,

The tires have a specific designation on the sidewall so that is what you would order otherwise the standard compound is what you will get. the probably would not be a huge difference in times at the track either way as a lot of these compound choices have to do with wet grip also. If the price is the same though I would always suggest that you buy the spec tires.
