I just got the word that my engine is indeed going back to Arrow. :2tu: They're pulling the motor today, and expect to get it on a plane tomorrow.. I'm told the current wait is roughly 4-6 weeks per Todd (at Arrow), and that most of it is due to lunched G3 and truck motors (loose timing gear?). It's going to be hard waiting now that the weather is nice, but I should be expecting a nice strong motor to come back. Patience is a virtue...

Now's the typical, "what should I do while it's in there" phase... I was going to go ahead and have the rest of the car serviced (put in diff drain plug, tranny fluid, clean out radiator, new clutch if needed, etc.). Anything else I should consider? Among the ideas I had were:
1) Al flywheel
2) 180 degree t-stat
3) Si hoses
4) pinning the crank pulley (Roe charger, here I come.... ;)

Is there anything I would want to take advantage of doing while the engine is out? I mean, besides hanging out on the board since I've got no car...

I hope you removed any after market goodies from the motor.
They kept my aluminum oil cap my polished throttle bodies and a few other things. I even had photo proof that they were on there and they basically said too bad.

No aftermarket goodies that would go for a plane trip (just smooth tubes, etc.), although there is a brand new
(0 time) wireset and plugs (was in the midst of a oil change/tune-up when I saw the mark. Thanks for the heads-up though.

About the commnon signs; I recently posted some pics of marks I saw on my engine block when changing the oil. Those marks and some tell-tale coolant aromas were sufficient to get the rebuild authorized. Ken (our local tech) said that they would've just replaced the head gaskets in-house if the car wasn't under warranty, but would have had to rebuild if the cylinder sleeves had shifted. The Arrow route pretty much guarantees that won't be an issue.

The shop is keeping the car; they have an indoor storage area where they store the cars (under cover). I'm not worried at all, as mine was the "low rent" car; they also had a comp coupe, a GTS receiving a stroker motor, and another get a Paxton kit. It sure would be a good time to get the fascias and sidesills repainted though....

Make sure that they pin the crank pulley ,if they said that it was done , then check it out. I have heard bad things lately about Arrow not doing what they said they did.

Hmmmm.... A stroker and a Paxton SC. Do you happen to know who those belong to? Inquiring minds want to know.

Nope; sorry, don't know the owners, but I can describe the cars. The stroker (Arrow built, btw) was going in a blue/white stripe GTS; the Paxton was going on a graphite GTS that a bunch of stuff already done (Penske shocks, etc.). I recall hearing that the blower car belonged to some fellow in Tualatin, and one of the car owners (I think of the blue one) also has a pair of Panteras. I definitely want to see both cars at the track this year...

About the crank pulley; I was going to have my shop do it. I didn't think Arrow did (or was allowed) to anything other than stock work. What did you hear about Arrow?
