Factory weight is 5w-30 Mobil 1. Brand filter is probably up for debate. OEM is a no brainer, have read reports that Fram is not so good.

How do you like the car?

I use Mobil 1 synthetic, and Mobil 1 filters. Use the red cap stuff, (15-50?) if you are going to stress it on the track, otherwise 10-30 should be fine.

I've used Mobil 1 in all our vehicles since new, and I am getting real high mileage with no engine wear. The engines in a couple of our trucks have 150,000 and even 186,000 miles, but are still are oil tight! No buring oil, and no added oil needed between change intervals.

Did I mention I like Mobil 1? :-D

PAULIE G, the FACTORY FILL on YOUR Viper was Mobil 1 10W-30...do you have a particular reason or need to change from it? Just wondering.

Straight 30W is for lawnmowers with splash oiling systems, not cars.

You're kidding right?
Multi grades are designed for a greater range of outside ambient air temp.
5w30 is designed to flow better during startup in cold weather compared to 15w30.
If you won't be experiencing cold weather when starting your engine 30W is fine.
I would however recommend a multi blend. 15w30 Redline oil is what I use.
What is key is that it's 100% synthetic and not a blend.
BTW my customers use straight 30W in there $50,000 to $360,000 tractors they buy from me as per manufactures spec.

Not promoting straight 30w, however, many of the top boat manufacturers indicate non multi-viscosity oil only. I use 10W-30 Royal Purple in the car, but, I use 30W or 40W in my boat. The oil pressure does drop when I have tried multi-viscosity oils.

Whoops, 10w-30 is factory. I indicated what I use which is 5w-30. Seems to be what is most available at Walmart.
I'm not sure I understand why anyone would use 5W-30 unless you drive only in sub-zero weather. I use 15W-50 Mobil-1 in the Viper due to the amount of time I sit in traffic and the intermittant track time I do, combined with the fact it rarely gets below 40 degrees F in these parts (even at night in "winter"). Our local Wal-Mart always seems to have 5W-30 (blue cap), 10W-30 (was green cap, is now silver?), and 15W-50 Mobil-1 (red cap) in stock.
