Just hit 510 miles on a 06 SRT 10 coupe. Maintenance book recommends oil changes every 3000 miles. I was wondering if anyone changed the oil sooner especially after the break-in. I understand that racing the car and other factors would warrant sooner oil changes, but at this point I'm just driving & enjoying this baby.

Check your oil consumption every 200 miles until you are certain there is no atypical oil loss. See my other posts about "Seized engine."

As advised often on this board, I changed mine at 500 miles and then every 3k thereafter. I found very small clump (1/16") of very fine metalic particles on the magnetic end of the drain plug at 500 but nothing since. I suspect its from manufacturing or break-in and I've seen it in larger amounts on other cars I've owned. Glad I did and got that stuff out of the oil early on.

Changed mine at 1000 and now every 2500. Good idea.
