A cell went bad with just over two years on a three year battery. Anybody else have any trouble with Optima? I have a DieHard in my RT/10 that is going strong.

Mine only made it 2 1/2 years croaking. At least the replacement was free.

Optima sold out to Johnson Controls a few years ago. I guess quality control has gone down hill with the switch.

A older one (pre Johnson Controls) will last forever

When I started on this board Optima was the battery to get. Times change, products change. That's why I don't mind the "best headers?" or "best wax?" threads. I just wish they weren't monthly. :)

I had a red top in my Ferrari and the battery went dead after 2 weeks from self discharge in the battery itself. I do not like these batteries and will never use them. I still have the factory original battery in my 2003 viper that has 19,000 miles on it and it has n ever gone dead even after sitting for months at a time in the winter. The viper always starts.

I have Seavolt AGM Batteries in my trawler that are 4 years old and it starts up after being in the boat after a long cold winter every spring.

We've got Die-Hard Golds in 5 of 6 Vipers...one is at 8 years now...plan to replace it this year. But NOTE...as these Vipers are not tracked, and leakage has not been a problem, Optima offers nothing to me. If tracking car is a possibility, would consider the Oddessey (lightweight, dry cell) over an Optima.

Chuck I have been using them for many years with no problems at all. I just replaced mine after 5 years old because it was not holding a charge but it needed at least 2 weeks of sitting before not starting.

IMHO it is Bellanger and Zaino. I guess we are good until atleast August now. ;)

On a serious note, what is the best battery? I am thinking about replacing the battery in my 01 GTS jsy to be on the safe side and was thinking I would get a Optima Red Top but after reading this thread am having second thoughts. What does everybody recommend?
