I know it might sound odd but has anyone considered painting thier stock airbox? could this be done, or would the paint not hold? I am going to ask my friend that has a body and paint shop to try it out on mine, but I was wondering if anyone had tried it yet??

Dunno about the Gen 3 airbox but I believe the Gen 2 is polypropylene. With an adequate amount of scuffing you can get paint to stick to polypro, but there would be a longevity issue. Most plastics in the polyolefin family have the same characteristics. Not much sticks to them.

I had the bottom of mine painted and air brushed 3 years ago. Don't know how it was prepped or what kind of paint but it's been issue-free.

Great Idea. 29Outlaw - that looks awesome. Need to find out from your painter how they preped. BTW - do you recall what they charged?

I have used a product called Bulldog Adhesion Promoter. It basically is a sticky substance that adheres to the plastic /poly and then the paint sticks to it. I have used it on rear view mirrors that come black from the factory and you want to paint them the same color as the car. I get this product from my local auto paint supply . And it comes in a aerosol can. Way cool.

If you have been putting any armorall on it, it is going to be tough to get anything to stick. I had my dash painted and it took three tries to get the paint to stick by a professional painter.

I heard that Mike at Xvipers should be coming out with a true carbon fiber airbox soon. I am waiting on that.

I never use any armorall rpoducts on any part of my car. In Las Vegas the heat will just cause it it yellow and cause more trouble than its ever worth to use. And I did see a full carbon fiber air box i think from Jon? But I dont want to have some carbon and some billet.

thanks for all the good info
