While exercising the parking brake on my 99 GTS to self adjust, the cable snapped or just came off its mounting below the center console. The dealer has cables on order but claims the manual says allow 5 hours labor time??? if cables need replacing. Have any of you had cable work done before and how long did it take to repair? Thanks.

I have done it on Mustangs and another car, I think..... but anyhoo, it should not be too difficult. You will need to pull the center console off and releast the E-brake tabs, that hold the cable in position in that area and then push the cable through the console (floorboard) so it falls outside, below the car, near the tranny. Then crawl under the car and follow the brake cables, back to the rear brakes (may be a few retaining tabs, holding the cable up off the ground and in a secure area, so tae those off). Remove the rear wheels and locate the E-Brake cables, which will also have a few (typically 3 metal tabs) holding them in place. push them in with a flat head screwdriver and push the cable out. Of course, the rear brakes will probabaly have to be removed to locate the end of the E-brake cables.

I think in general it should not be hard at all, just a little time consuming and having to remove alot of just to get to the easy stuff....

Like I said, I have not done it on a Viper, but I had my console out the other day, because I had to adjust my short throw shifter a little. I remember looking back and seeing my E-brake cables, thinking to myself..... hmmmm.... there they are, and it doesn't look too difficult to "pop" them out if I need to replace them.

:)

Thanks for the info. It sounds like 5 hours. Hope the new dealer I am going to knows what they are doing and does not screw up something else like they all seem to do. At least down in this area.:drive: Wished we had a Woodhouse or Tators here.

Not sure where the "Woodlands" are, but don't forget about A.R.T. right here around Austin. Find a few things you want done to your car and bring the car in to get it all knocked out at once. The thing is.... the guys at ART are fast and know EXACTLY what they are doing, so you spend hardly anything on labor with stuff like this. It is done in half the time as a dealership. These are viper techs and viper owners. I spent about $350 on motor mount instillation, tranny mount installation, rear end gear lube flush, brake line flush and I think something else.... Car was all done in one day.

Here is a mapquest for ART's approx location.

I am 40 minutes north of Houston and having the same service items you just had done plus the cable issue. I will keep these people in mind for future reference. Thanks.
