A friend of mine will be in the area, and would like a tour of the assembly plant. What is involved and who should I call? Thank you.

Steve,

Whats up buddy? What plant are you talking about? Conner Ave? Or the plant in Delaware? I went to Conner Ave in 2001 and it was enjoyable. Stayed right up the street in Warren. I forget the contact woman but you should be able to do a search on here. Good luck!

Our Ohio Tour is full at this time. Our cutoff date was last Monday. The contact is Kim Vogt at the above number. The requirements are that you be a VCA member, no cameras, no open toed shoes. She should be able to tell you any upcoming tours available. No Guests! They must also be VCA members!

You could try walking in backwards ,when they open the door, they may think you are leaving! This works great when a movie theatre lets out!!

Also there is no Conner Ave. in Detroit. The plant is on Conner Road. Dodge changes the name so that the plant reads CAAP, Conner Avenue Assembly Plant. Vipers being built at the CRAP Plant didn't play well! If you ask any locals for Conner Ave. they know where Conner Rd. is!

Thanks for all the info. My buddy will not be going, he is not a member, and he looks nothing like me so no trading ID's. Oh well I guess he'll just have to step up and buy a Viper.

Hey Frank, I saw a Rambler like yours at Atlantic City auction. Was thinking of you. You should try to make some of the MD/VA events with us. We are cruising down Saturday to the event together (at least three Vipers together) the more the merrier. Give me a call, or E-mail me directly and I'll give you my #. As I remember it's still your turn to come to DE.

Steve,

When I went to the Conner Ave Plant there was no prerequisites to take the tour. You didn't have to own a Viper or be a VCA member. They never asked me didlysquat. PLus, when I went, there was a bunch of people and of the group of about a dozen people, I was the only one who owned a Viper. I went in the summer of 2001. If it has changed since then I may not be aware of it. I find it difficult to believe they won't let you in because you don't own a Viper or aren't a VCA member. Maybe once that Wolfgang dude from Daimler took over things have changed or since 9/11 events.

That Rambler at AC was there again this year. Goes unsold all of the time. He wanted $17K for it. It was a roach. I wouldn't pay $12K for it! Shame I didn't know you were there because I usually go on Friday and we could have met up. Maybe this summer when school is out I will meet you. Busy as usual...Take care!

I have been to the plant about 10 times in the last 5 years. Each time there have been some different requirements. The first time I was there they insisted on steel toed shoes/boots! Cameras are hit or miss! They are now on the fourth plant manager. In the past they have allowed "guests" and never required all to be VCA members, only that they be invited guests of members. Wolfgang has moved or is moving back across the ocean. I suspect that the new policies are from DC or the newest plant manager. I have not met her yet and will report on the subject after I have had a chance to meet and discuss the policy with her next week. Perhaps competition and the new world terrorist activity have tightend eveyone's security policies.

It was a lot more fun when they also had the Prowler line beside the Vipers. It is still very interesting to see and they moved the engine assembly into the building. The Viper gift shop is the destination for more than half our attendees!! They used to build the engines at another plant close by which we toured several times. It would have made a lot of sense to build the Ram SRT-10 at the CAAP plant, but politics and I am sure economics, had a big part in that decision! It really used to be awesome to see a few hundred Prowlers and Vipers sitting in the "ready" area waiting on Reliable to take them to their new owners!

Regards!
