Generally the ps would only whine under load, as in turning. But I suppose with no fluid it could whine at any time.

Any fluid will do. I bought a case of Redline and cycle my fluid every few track events.

is it posible for power steering fluid to be burnt during drag racing or racing event. at atco drag race track i made a few passes and towards the end i had white smoke coming out of the exhaust and someone mentioned it might be PS fluid being burnt cause of heavy loads. is this true?

Diagnostic from my service manual,

Whine or Growl (Pump Noise)
1. Low power steering fluid level. Fill reservoir.
2. Power steering hose touching the frame or body. Reposition.
3. Extreme wear of power steering pump internal parts. Replace.

In your case, it looks like the first. You might want to cycle the fluid. I used Mopar PSF (Part# 04883077).

P.S. With low power steering fluid, you could lose power steering. It could be dangerous around turns. I suggest you top off asap. BTDT.

But how would you get power steering fluid on the exhaust in the first place? Maybe you need that vent cap from Archer racing to prevent a fire.

I think white smoke from the exhaust is usually a sign of oil burn-off. Check your oil level.

Better check for a leak. Fill the reservior and while you are looking under the hood have somebody turn the wheel to full lock. Make sure they hold the wheel hard at lock. If there is a leak in pressure hose you will see it squirt out.

Check cap too, look at rubber splash shield underneath and many break the stem off. Easy for fluid to come out during autocross but of course this isn't going to allow all the fluid in the tank out.

I'd be looking for a hose leak like Chuck said, common. Also get the vent tube that restricts the cap from coming off from Archer or Roe Racing.
