I know what you mean about these things. I cringe at the thought of the added weight, not to mention the expense of the power top, but not at the function of it, as it'snice to see how they operate. They can be very complex, as some of them have up to seven electric motors in them. It is kind of neat to be at a traffic light, and push a button, and in twenty seconds the top is up or down. As far as a light in the trunk, well no weight or cost to speak of, last forever, and they are nice if you use the trunk often. My take on the many options a car can have is: function, cost, reliability, and weight increase since that's very important on these cars. There are many options that I wouldn't mind on the Viper. Power seats, and top are off that list, not because they are not very good options, but they are very heavy, costly, and problematic. If I traveled on the highway often, I would not mind cruise control, can't keep it under 80 but I don't travel in the car, so I'm happy without it. I simple light under the hood, it's cheap, light weight, and handy, shows off the motor at night, I'm a buyer.
If it's practical, ok then. Haven't heard any complaints about the power windows on the car. Those zip up plastic windows on the old RT-10 were not much fun.
but,I do see your point, hope you see mine.
